Photo shoot: Adam

Written by Nasir Hamid on December 4th, 2012

These shots are from a recent photo shoot I had with Adam who you might recognise from some of my shots from the Oxford Fashion Week 2012 Haute Couture show. It was an opportunity for me to test out a new lens that had arrived that morning and also to see how a certain film/developer combination handled very flat overcast light. When I say very flat light I mean extremely dull hard to get inspired horrible light. After starting off in an open area (top and bottom left) we moved under some cover which was a lot better because it gave some light/shadow to work with. I think the shots made during the second half of the shoot are the best and overall I’m pleased with the 150mm lens. Adam was very easy to work with and hopefully we’ll shoot some more in the future in better light and weather.

[Tech info:] Bronica ETRSi, 150mm lens, Fuji Acros 100 film processed in Rodinal 1:100 for 1 hour (semi-stand).

Nasir, these are great, well done 🙂

You should share the recipe for cooking these films haha How’s the agitation like to soak Acros in Rodinal 1+100 in an hour? 😀 Do you think grains are finer this way than 1+100 in 18min?

Thanks very much. I’ve never tried 1+100 for 18min. Have you? Here’s my recipe:
      5 min presoak in water
6ml of Rodinal in 600ml of water
Gentle agitation (90 degrees and twist) for first 30 secs (8 agitations)
Tap on hard surface a few times and leave to stand for 30mins
After 30mins 4 or 6 gentle agitations in 30 secs
Tap on hard surface and leave to stand for the remaining 30mins
Water stop bath for 1 minute
Fix and wash as normal 🙂

I’m thinking of testing stand developing with a roll of acros 400 that I shot 6 years ago and forgot that I put it in the fridge. Stand developing is the best way to try and recover anything recoverable, I think.

Are all of the images shot with the same lens? I love the 2nd and the last images in the set. Nice.
