These images span two shows, The Elysium Show (held at Oxford Town Hall) and The Haute Couture Show (held at the Ashmolean Museum). All of these images are from the same roll of film. There are only 15 frames on the roll so I had to exclude some here because I wanted to make a neat grid. I’ll post the others in a different post. This was the first time I had used Kodak TMAX 400 film in many years so this was somewhat a bit of a test to see how it would cope in low light being pushed 2 stops. I’m stunned at how fine the grain is and how smooth the tones are considering the harsh lighting conditions I was working in (overhead ceiling lights). The results look better than the Tri-X I shot at the same time.
[Tech info:] Bronica ETRSi with 75mm lens, loaded with Kodak TMAX 400 film, rated at ISO 1600. Processed in Kodak HC110 for 7.5mins.
Great shots indeed, well done 🙂 Although these are very small size images and cannot see how fine the grains are in a larger size file, it seem they must be finer than Tri-X rated at 1600 in Rodinal 1+100 stand dev that I do!
What dilution did you use? And agitation?
I used dilution B (1+31). Agitate for first 30secs then 4 agitations in 10secs every minute. Sorry about the small but it’s faster for me to do this than post them all individually. I’ve got a lot of people wanting to see their pictures and my spare time is very limited. Trust me, the grain is extremely fine, mind blowingly fine for 1600.
Thank you Nasir, I will give it go once I decide to open the brand new HC bottle I have 😀 How do you store it? I have not tried HC before because it seems it is quite a hassle to store it without loosing shelf-life!
I store all of my chemicals in a cool, dark place. For my HC110 I transfer it to smaller glass (jam) jars. My first bottle was fine for over a year as I slowly made my way through it.
My favourite of this set? The one on the bottom right. There’s something particularly striking with her gaze.
