Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 4 – part 2

Wednesday, November 7th, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour 6 | FILM 4 in Oxford, October 2018. Day 1 of filming ended on Holywell Street in rapidly falling light thanks to the clocks changing back an hour the previous day. This is something I had anticipated and loaded a roll of Kodak Portra 400 accordingly. Day 2 started on New College Lane in very contrasty sunlight.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 3 – part 1

Saturday, November 3rd, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour series 6, FILM 3 in Oxford. I only managed to catch the last few hours of this day’s filming but in order to avoid spoilers I only have a handful of shots to share from this roll at the moment. As usual, I will post more after broadcast.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 1 – part 3

Sunday, September 23rd, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour 6, FILM 1 in Oxford, August 2018. A lot of work goes into recreating a scene from the 1960’s and that includes dressing SA’s (supporting artists) in vintage outfits, sorting out hair and make-up, accessories/props etc even though many of them will be hardly noticeable on screen.

[Tech info:] Rolleiflex 2.8F, Zeiss Planar, Fuji 400H, Noritsu scans.

Friday, September 21st, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour 6, FILM 1 in Oxford, August 2018. Magdalen College was the location for the end of the first day of filming in Oxford and the next morning started off in Oriel Square at a very busy intersection with Merton Street. The crew did an excellent job of keeping the scene clear of modern day vehicles throughout the morning.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 1 – part 1

Thursday, September 20th, 2018

Some behind the scenes shots from day one of three in Oxford filming Endeavour 6, FILM 1. I’m continuing to use mostly colour film for a change but I did manage to use a couple of b&w rolls as well during the three days of filming. I can’t share very much at the moment to avoid spoilers but more pictures will follow after broadcast.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 35/2.8 Zeiss Biogon, Fuji Superia 200 film, Noritsu scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 2 – part 3

Saturday, July 21st, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour 6, FILM 2 on New College Lane in Oxford. This was an extremely hot day and the tourists were out in force but you can’t really tell that from these pictures. I’ve picked out a selection of spoiler-free images, more will follow after broadcast.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, Zeiss 35/2.8 Biogon-C (shots 1-3), Konica Hexar AF (all others), Fuji Superia 200, Fuji Frontier scans.

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour 6, FILM 2 in North Oxford. No spoilers here. If you’d like to see the difference between Kodak Gold 200 film and Fuji Superia 200 film compare these shots with the previous blog post which was shot on Gold 200. Same lens used for both films.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 2 – part 1

Thursday, July 19th, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of FILM 2 of Endeavour series 6 in North Oxford. Mainly crew pictures from this roll, no spoilers! Other pictures will follow after broadcast some time in 2019. For a change I have been using colour film instead of b&w but I may change things up a bit – I’m still undecided about that. On this occasion I dusted off one of my least used lenses – a 50/2.0 Summicron lens which originally came with my M2 but when I tested it with b&w film I found the contrast to be lacking for my taste. It does however produce very nice results on colour film so I decided to use it on this occasion.

Mapledurham at War 2018 – part 1

Sunday, June 24th, 2018

Here are some portraits I made at a WWII re-enactment event at Mapledurham recently. The weather was overcast which was perfect for the colour palette and colour negative film I was using. After much deliberation on which gear to take I settled on two 6×6 medium format cameras – Rolleiflex 2.8F and Pentacon Six TL – because I mostly wanted to concentrate on portraits and I like the balance of the 6×6 format. Shots from the Pentacon will follow.

[Tech info:] Rolleiflex 2.8F, Fuji Pro 400H film (expired).

Oxford: Endeavour 4, episode 3 – part 6

Wednesday, June 20th, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour 4 FILM 3 from August 2016. I thought it might be interesting to dig out some pictures from my archive that I haven’t posted yet – there are a lot of them! The first two shots are from Christchurch meadow from a shot that didn’t make the final edit where the First AD was standing in as a groundsman for an over the shoulder POV shot. Next it was a location move to Headington cemetery and was a race against the setting sun and the fading light level. Looking at these pictures almost two years later is interesting for me as some of the crew came back to work on Endeavour series 5 and others didn’t. Two years on the pictures still hold up for me. Photographic memories. More to come.

[Tech info:] Konica Hexar AF, Fuji Reala 100 (expired), Pakon scans.

Oxford: finals exam celebrations, 2018 – part 1

Tuesday, June 5th, 2018

It’s been a while since I posted any pictures of post finals exam celebrations (aka trashing) so here are some shots from a couple of weeks ago. This was the day that I noticed the photographer that supplies pictures to the Daily Fail and other so-called newspapers so that they can attach them to an article that tries to put Oxford University students in a negative light. It’s been the same old thing for the past 5 or 6 years. It must have been a slow news day at the Daily Fail offices.

Oxford: Summer Eights 2018 – panoramic

Friday, June 1st, 2018

The final day of Summer Eights is always a favourite event of mine to photograph during the summer. Here are some shots I made with a Russian panoramic camera. Each frame is approximately 1.5 times the width of a regular 35mm frame and the camera has a built in spirit level that you can see through the viewfinder to help you keep the camera level when required. It’s fun to use and I like the results especially at an event where there is so much going on around you.
